Course overview
Liverpool John Moores University’s BSc Physical Education with Foundation Year prepares students for careers in sport, fitness, and coaching. Students will learn psychology, sport patterns, and the social aspects of physical education. This programme differs from the three-year course because it offers an optional year to learn the basics before entering the main degree.
The programme combines classroom learning with workplace experience. Students gain practical skills through placements in schools, sports clubs, and community projects. They can also participate in LJMU’s Sport Start scheme and opt for a sandwich year to gain additional industry experience.
Learning is through lectures, seminars, workshops, and online study, with support from personal tutors. Assessment methods include essays, exams, presentations, and a final-year dissertation.
Entry requirements
Grade Requirements:
- Applicants need about 88 UCAS points or similar qualifications.
- Acceptable qualifications include 2 A-levels in Science or Sport, BTEC, Access Awards, OCR Cambridge Technical, T levels, or International Baccalaureate.
English Proficiency:
- International students must have an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with no component below 5.5.
