Course Overview

The MSc Occupational Therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University is for students who already have a degree in any subject and want to support people in their daily lives. Occupational therapists help people of all ages take part in everyday activities, especially when they face challenges due to illness, disability, or ageing.

This professionally approved course combines theory with hands-on learning and is accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). You’ll learn alongside students from nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics and social work, reflecting the real teamwork involved in healthcare.

When you study MSc Occupational Therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University, you will learn important knowledge and skills to help people in their daily lives. You will study both theories in the classroom and gain real experience during work placements with trained professionals.

After you finish the course, you can apply to join the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This will allow you to work as an occupational therapist in hospitals, community centres, charities, or private clinics in the UK or other countries.

About University

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is a public university in the centre of Glasgow, a large city in Scotland. It was created in 1993 when two older schools, Glasgow Polytechnic and The Queen’s College, joined together. The name “Caledonian” is the old Latin word for Scotland, showing the university’s strong Scottish roots.

The main campus is in the Cowcaddens area, just a short walk from the city centre. GCU also has other campuses, including one in London called GCU London, which focuses on subjects like fashion and finance.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants with a degree in any discipline can apply for this course. 
  • Applicants are required to submit a personal statement detailing their reasons for applying, personal attributes, and experience in working with people relevant to the nature of occupational therapy. 
  • They will also be required to submit one reference, preferably an academic reference.

Grade Requirements:

  • Prospective applicants should normally possess an honours degree at second class lower (2:2) or above, completed within 10 years of entry to the programme.

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score of 7.0 (or equivalent) with no component below 6.5.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for the 2025/26 academic session to study the MSc Occupational Therapy (Pre-registration) at Glasgow Caledonian University is £19,300. Please note that fees are subject to change.
