MSc Physical Literacy

The MSc Physical Literacy at Edge Hill combines theoretical, applied and practical sessions, which gives students the opportunity for hands-on learning in the university’s outstanding sports facilities. The students will develop conceptual and applied knowledge, understanding and skills to deliver physical literacy learning in school, sport, exercise and health-related settings.

Students will explore learning areas such as the foundational concepts of physical literacy, its application in teaching and coaching and how it is assessed and researched. Other modules covered include the conceptual and applied basis of physical literacy, teaching and learning strategies, research methods, and applied research projects.

The teaching methods include tutor-led sessions, which require a time commitment of 8-10 hours per week, lectures, seminars, workshops, and practicals. Assessment methods include written assignments, research reports, presentations, practical activities, reflection, and portfolio. There are no formal examinations in the programme. The optional Applied Placement module, which offers opportunities to gain real-world experience, is also available.

Edge Hill University is located in Lancashire, England. It was established in 1885 and gained University status on 18 May 2006. Grade Requirements:

• Applicants need to have a minimum of a first-class or upper second-class honours (2:1 or above) in a relevant physical education, sport coaching, exercise, or health-related discipline.
• Alternatively, applicants with a 2:2 and relevant professional experience will also be considered.

English Proficiency:

• Applicants who are non-English speakers require an IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
• Equivalent English language qualification tests like PTE and TOEFL are accepted.

The tuition fee for MSc Physical Literacy at Edge Hill University in 2025/26 is £17,000 per year for international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change.

Edge Hill University offers a Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship, which provides a £3,000 reduction of the tuition fees for a Master's programme. All full-time, international fee-paying students automatically qualify for scholarship awards after completing their application.
