MSc Computing

Course Overview

The MSc Computing is a one-year postgraduate degree that covers the basics of Information Technology and Computing. The curriculum emphasises practical application, aids students in understanding the course requirements, and offers resources they can use to work on projects that simulate the workplace.

This course includes modules on cloud computing, idea generation, system design, and project management to enhance students' critical thinking and time management skills, which are essential in the IT sector. Additionally, the students will be introduced to extra modules on Java, C++, Fortran, Python, COBOL, Information Security, and Data Analytics.

Learning in this course is delivered through lectures, labs, tutorials, group work, and a work placement. Assessment is through coursework, case studies, problem-solving, and examinations.

Entry Requirements

Grade Requirements

  • International students are required to have a degree similar to a UK first-class or second-class honours (2:2 or above) in a non-computing discipline.
  • For those without a computing degree, equivalent knowledge gained through professional experience or completion of the BCS Professional Diploma in IT (Level 6) is also considered.

English Proficiency

  • Applicants whose first language isn’t English need to demonstrate their fluency in the language. This can be showcased through an IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no score below 6.0 in each band.

Cost of Study

International students pursuing the one-year MSc Computing programme, in the 2025/26 academic session, will pay a tuition fee of £16,500.

Scholarships

Edge Hill University provides scholarships and bursaries to help students avoid financial distress. International students, especially those entering the MSc Computing degree, will benefit from an International Scholarships Package, which automatically awards overseas fee-paying students. Some of these incentives include the Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship, which offers £3,000 towards tuition fees; the GREAT Scholarship, for students from Ghana, India, Kenya, and Turkey, provides a fee waiver of up to £17,000 or a minimum of £10,000.

Additionally, international students can receive a £500 discount on their tuition fees through an Early Payment Discount.
