MSc Automotive Mechatronics

Cranfield University

Course overview

The Cranfield University Automotive Mechatronics course prepares graduates for leadership roles in the fast-changing automotive and motorsport industries, especially with the rise of electric and autonomous vehicles. The programme focuses on designing, testing, and controlling complex vehicle systems. This course equips students with advanced skills in areas such as intelligent systems, vehicle electrification, and communication protocols.

Students benefit from world-class facilities, including a dedicated Intelligent Mobility Engineering Centre, simulation suites, and access to a professional race team workshop. Learning includes lectures, practical sessions, and group projects where students solve real industrial problems. Assessment combines module evaluations with a significant individual research project, often in collaboration with external organisations, allowing for in-depth understanding and industry exposure.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying to the course and provide other relevant information about their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CVs along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically need a UK lower second-class (2:2) undergraduate degree with honours, or an equivalent international qualification.
  • If an applicant does not meet these standard entry requirements, they may apply for a Pre-Master's course; successful completion of this path will then enable their entry into the MSc programme.

English Proficiency:

  • All applicants whose primary language is not English need an overall score of 6.5, with no less than 5.5 in any of the four elements.
  • Applicants can also submit other English test scores, like TOEFL and PTE.
