BA Sports Coaching with Physical Education

Course Overview

The BA (Hons) Sports Coaching with Physical Education course at Buckinghamshire New University helps people develop a love for sports and prepares students for their careers in teaching or coaching. The course starts in September 2025 and lasts for three or four years. It's based at the High Wycombe campus and combines classroom learning with hands-on experience, focusing on teaching methods and the current PE curriculum. 

This helps students prepare for careers in teaching or sports coaching. In this course, students learn about sports coaching and teaching and gain practical skills to help them in their future careers. They'll also receive support to gain extra qualifications in teaching and coaching. 

The course covers topics like coaching methods, sports research, and sports psychology, as well as how to analyse performance. Students will have the chance to gain work experience in schools, sports clubs, or community sports organisations, after passing a background check.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants need a UCAS Tariff score between 88 and 112 points, obtained through A-levels (e.g., BCC - CCD), T-levels, BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (e.g., DMM-MMP), or an Access to Higher Education course in a relevant subject. 
  • A minimum of two full A-levels or equivalent qualifications is generally required. 

English Proficiency: 

  • Applicants need an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in all individual components.
  • PTE (55 overall with 51 in all areas), TOEFL iBT (80 overall with specific minimums in each section), and LanguageCert Academic (overall 65 with no skill below 60) are also accepted.

Cost of Study

For the 2025/2026 academic year, the tuition fee for BA  Sports Coaching with Physical Education is £15,150 per year.

Scholarships

Buckinghamshire New University provides various scholarships and discounts to eligible students, including the Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship, which offers up to £5,000 for international students. The university also offers a Family Discount of 10% off tuition fees for students with a family member who is a current student, graduate, or staff member. Also, self-funding students can get a 2% discount on their course fee if they pay in full by their fixed registration date. BNU also offers support for talented athletes through two programs.
