Course Overview

The BA in Fashion Business and Promotion with a Foundation Year at Birmingham City University provides students with insights into how different roles within fashion work together, along with essential skills in commercial planning and competitive analysis. Throughout their four years in the programme, students will learn to be creative and gain a good understanding of the fashion industry. They will also have the opportunity to meet people in the fashion world by working on a real event management project and visiting major fashion capitals such as Paris, London, and New York.

The foundation year focuses on building core creative skills, including blog writing, garment creation, and branding. In the following years, they will go on to study essential areas such as marketing strategies, creative realisation, commercialisation, fashion business, and merchandising. During the course, students are guided by experienced staff and are taught to use design software like InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Entry Requirements

Grade Requirements:

  • International applicants can provide qualifications that are equal to A Levels, with grades of CDD. This should add up to 80 UCAS Tariff points. 

  • They can also present an International Baccalaureate diploma if they have at least 28 points in total.

English Proficiency:

  • Non-native English speakers should have an IELTS score of 6.0 overall. In addition, they are required to score at least 5.5 in each skill area (listening, reading, writing, and speaking).

Cost of Study

For the academic year 2025/26, the cost to study Birmingham City University’s BA Fashion Business and Promotion with a Foundation Year programme is £17,690 each year. Please note that this fee may go up by as much as 5% every year throughout the duration of the course.

Scholarships

Birmingham City University (BCU) offers different scholarships to help international students pay for their education. One of these is the International Scholarship, which gives up to £2,000 off tuition fees for undergraduate international students. However, this scholarship is not available for exchange programmes, short courses, or conservatoire courses.

Another option is the Women in STEAM Scholarship provided by BCU International College. This scholarship gives £2,500 to women studying in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
