BEng Computer Systems Engineering
Course overview
The BEng Computer Systems Engineering at Bangor University is a full-time undergraduate degree under the Faculty of Engineering. The course spans three years and covers both hardware and software parts of computing. Students study how computer systems are built, including electronics, circuits, design of computing hardware, and also software aspects like operating systems, computing architecture, and embedded systems. In the first year, core modules include mathematics for engineering, fundamental electronics/electrical principles, circuit design, computer architecture, and operating systems.
In the final years, specialisation is flexible. Areas may include Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, signal processing, networking, and embedded systems. The degree aims to give strong practical experience. Students spend time in labs, doing hands-on work with electronics and system design. This makes graduates ready for fields spanning both computer science and electronic/electrical engineering. Assessment methods vary, including labs, coursework, tests, and final exams. In the final year, students may do a major project or design-based work. This mix ensures both theoretical depth and practical ability in hardware and software systems.
