PhD Speech & Language Therapy

The PhD Speech & Language Therapy at the University of Strathclyde is a three-year doctoral degree that develops students' critical thinking, research, and communication skills in speech and language. This course is for students who want to provide solutions through consultancy and understand communication disorders.

In this programme, students with a Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) background undertake modules which make it easier for them to conduct research in areas such as Speech Perception and brain mechanisms of language. They will also understand the causes and remedies of voice disorders or stuttering.

As part of the coursework, students enrol in a research development programme, where they collect enough credits to graduate with a Postgraduate Certificate in Researcher Professional Development. In addition, this course is promising because it also helps students to examine how therapy styles, technology, and policy enhance communication.

Learning in this course is through lectures, seminars, site visits, independent study, and assignments. Students are assessed through written assignments, examinations, practical team projects, presentations, and individual dissertations.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants must have a first-class or second-class upper UK Honours degree, or international equivalent, in speech and language pathology or a similar subject.

English Proficiency:

• International students require an IELTS overall score of 6.5, with no component score below 5.5.
