Course Overview

The Staffordshire University MSc Nursing Practice (Child) programme at Staffordshire University is a pre-registration course designed to equip graduates to become qualified children's nurses, eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The course prepares students to provide care for children from birth up to 18 years of age across various settings, including hospitals, community clinics, and charitable organisations. The course also offers a fast-track option for individuals already registered as adult, mental health, or learning disability nurses who wish to gain a dual qualification.

The curriculum is aligned with the Future Nurse Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses. It consists of a 50/50 split between theoretical learning and practical experience, with students completing a minimum of 2,300 hours in each area.

In this course, students learn through extensive clinical placements, innovative simulation facilities, and interprofessional work with other healthcare students, covering areas such as family-centred care, physical and mental health assessments, and leadership in nursing.
