BA Digital Animation

Course Overview

The BA Digital Animation at Birmingham City University is designed to enable students to understand art fundamentals, such as anatomy, gesture, pose, perspective, and composition, as well as how these elements are used for digital animation practice. Students will also learn about the 12 principles of animation required to create engaging animation performance, whether they choose the Film/Television or Games/Interactive pathway.

During this 3-year programme, students will spend time mastering digital puppet animation, motion graphics and 2D game design through animation techniques, applying these skills to today’s digital world.  This course offers an optional professional placement year, allowing students to spend a year with an employer after the successful completion of their second year, a great opportunity to learn more about their chosen career.

About University

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

To apply for this course, you need to write a personal statement. In this statement, please explain your reasons for wanting to be at Birmingham City University. Also, include any important details about your previous education. You will also need to provide a reference letter from a teacher or an employer. If you have any relevant work experience, you can also include your CV with your application.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants are expected to have qualifications equivalent to 80-112 UCAS tariff points at A-levels within the grade range of BCC. Other qualifications, such as the BTEC Extended Diploma in two A-levels or equivalent level 3 qualifications and T Level with merits overall (all subjects considered), are also accepted.

English Proficiency:

  • If English is not the first language you speak, you need to get a score of 6.0 overall on the IELTS test. You must score at least 5.5 in each part of the test. The university also accepts similar scores from other English language tests like PTE or TOEFL.

Cost of Study

For the 2025/2026 academic year, the tuition fee to study the BA Digital Animation from Birmingham City University is £17,690.

Scholarships

Birmingham City University offers financial help to students from the UK and other countries who are starting their first degree. If you are an international student beginning your studies in September 2025, you might be able to get a scholarship of up to £2,000. This fund will reduce the amount you need to pay for your first year of study. Generally, this scholarship is given to students who have good grades from their previous studies.
