BA Psychology Social Policy

Course Overview

The BA (Hons) Psychology and Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde is an interdisciplinary honours degree that combines the study of human behaviour with an understanding of how public policy addresses social issues. It helps students build both analytical and social skills. Learners study human behaviour, mental health, and how policies influence people’s lives, alongside social justice and welfare systems. Students explore how factors such as poverty, housing, and healthcare shape wellbeing and opportunity. This degree provides broad insights and practical skills to work in roles that impact individuals and communities. The programme runs for four years full-time.

Early years cover core modules in psychology, cognition, brain systems, development, and research methods, alongside social policy courses about welfare, inequality, and public services. Later years allow students to choose specialised topics and complete a final-year research project integrating both disciplines. Learning takes place through lectures, seminars, workshops, and group projects, while assessments include essays, reports, exams, policy analyses, and the final dissertation demonstrating independent research and critical thinking.
