BSc Midwifery

The BSc Midwifery at Buckinghamshire New University is designed for students who want to become registered midwives through a combination of academic study and practical training. The program equips students with the skills and confidence to provide patient-centred care, promote positive outcomes, and anticipate complications during pregnancy, labour, birth, and postpartum.
The learning areas covered include physiology, public health, additional care needs, newborn examination, professional accountability, pharmacology, anatomy, and leadership. Digital tools and evidence‑based practice are used in all modules, research methods and service improvement, with up‑to‑date professional guidance from experienced staff and guest speakers.
The teaching methods include seminar-based sessions, lectures, authentic scenarios, case studies, and online learning, while assessments involve essays, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), presentations, and digital video submissions. The program includes simulated clinical ward experiences in on-campus facilities and at least 4,600 hours of theory and practice over three years, meeting NMC standards.

Buckinghamshire New University is located in High Wycombe, with campuses in Uxbridge and Aylesbury. It was established in 1891 and granted full university status in 2007. The university is recognised for its practical approach to education and its commitment to student support.

The university features modern facilities with up-to-date equipment, including specialist 'wards' for healthcare simulation that allow students to practice in realistic environments. Applicants must submit a personal statement explaining their interest in midwifery, supported by an academic or professional background. A reference from an academic or employer is required, and students may upload a CV to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants typically require 112 - 136 UCAS tariff points, which can be obtained through qualifications such as A levels, T levels, BTEC or an Access to Higher Education course in a relevant subject.

English Proficiency:

• Applicants who do not speak English as their first language need an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each component.
• Alternatively, equivalent English proficiency qualifications like PTE and TOEFL are also considered.

The tuition fee for the BSc Midwifery programme is £15,150 per year for international students in the 2025/26 academic year. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change.

Buckinghamshire New University offers scholarships to international students to support them financially. The Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship, which provides £1,500 for the first year of undergraduate study to eligible self-funded international students and the  International Early Payment Discount are some of the scholarships awarded by the university. The NHS Training grant of £5,000 per academic year is also available to students who meet the eligibility requirements.
