BEng Civil Engineering

The Buckinghamshire New University BEng Civil Engineering Foundation Year is a four-year programme designed to build academic study skills and confidence for aspiring engineers. The initial foundation year helps students identify their strengths and development needs, preparing them for seamless progression onto the full undergraduate degree. 

This first year within the Engineering and Built Environment School shares a common curriculum, allowing students to establish strong foundations in various areas of engineering science. Following the foundation year, the BEng Civil Engineering course explores core topics such as structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering, and environmental engineering, with a central focus on sustainability and innovation. 

In this course, students engage in design projects and laboratory exercises simulating real-world challenges, applying theoretical knowledge and developing critical thinking skills. The programme also enhances employability through group projects and presentations, fostering communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and project management abilities.

Grade Requirements: 

• Applicants need a UCAS tariff score of 32 - 56. This typically translates to A-Levels (BCC - BBB), BTEC (DMM), T Levels (Merit), or International Baccalaureate.
• The university also accepts international qualifications equivalent to A-levels.

English Proficiency: 

• If your first language is not English, you need an overall score of 6.0 in IELTS with no component below 5.5. Other equivalent test scores, like PTE and TOEFL, are accepted.

For international students, the tuition fee for the BEng Civil Engineering Foundation Year at Buckinghamshire New University is £15,150 per year.

Buckinghamshire New University offers various financial support options and bursaries to assist undergraduate students in achieving their full potential. These include the BNU Learning Resource Fund, providing £150 for study materials, and the Thrive Bursary, awarding £500 to eligible UK students based on household income or deprivation criteria. 

Additionally, specialised bursaries offer £1,100 plus accommodation for care leavers, estranged students, and those from Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showman, and Boater (GTRSB) backgrounds. The university also provides emergency aid, a hardship fund, and guidance on external support like Disabled Students' Allowances.
