MA Culinary Arts Management

Course Overview

The MA Culinary Arts Management at University College Birmingham is designed to equip graduates and professionals with advanced skills for a career in the culinary operations and leadership within the hospitality sector. The course will improve the expert skills of culinary professionals in managerial capabilities and culinary innovation in fields of the hospitality industry.

Learning areas covered include innovation, recipe and food product development, classical and contemporary culinary techniques addressing changing consumer demands, researching industry trends, and managing culinary operations as profit centres.

The Teaching methods are large group lectures, smaller group sessions, tutorials, and subject advice, with assessment through coursework, practical evaluations,  written examinations, and an independent research project. Students have the opportunity to undertake an optional placement of three or six months, which provides them with practical industry experience.

University College Birmingham is a university located in central Birmingham, England, it gained full university status in 2012. It offers vocational and academic education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in hospitality and the culinary arts.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must submit a personal statement outlining their interest in the course and any academic or professional experience. A reference from an academic or employer is required. Students can also upload a CV to show relevant professional work experience (three to five years).

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants should hold a good UK honours degree (minimum 2:2), in any relevant subject.
  • Alternatively, any relevant professional degree-equivalent qualifications will also be considered.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants who do not speak English as their first language need an overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0, with no less than 5.5 in each component.
  • Alternative English Language tests like SELT, PTE and TOEFL iBT are accepted.

Cost of Study

For the academic year 2025/2026, the tuition fee for the MA Culinary Arts Management programme is £17,000. For international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change.

Scholarships

The university offers the Alumni Scholarship for international students progressing from undergraduate to postgraduate study, providing a 25% fee reduction for those with a first-class honours degree and 20% for others.  Additional scholarships like the Sustainable Development Award, Early Action Scholarship, and others are awarded by the university after meeting specific eligibility requirements.
