BSc Operating Department Practice

The BSc Operating Department Practice at Staffordshire University is a three-year programme designed to prepare students for specialised patient care in operating theatres and other important clinical settings. The curriculum covers the patient's entire surgical journey, from the administration of anaesthesia to the recovery phase, with skills such as preparing surgical equipment, skilled airway management, and comprehensive patient safety. 

During this course, students will undergo clinical placements in various hospitals across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire, and the West Midlands to gain practical experience in general, abdominal, orthopaedic, obstetric, and ear, nose, and throat surgical procedures.

The three-year programme also covers foundational professionalism, clinical skills, anatomy, safe medication practices, human factors in patient safety, research methods, pharmacology, enhanced recovery skills, managing deteriorating patients, safeguarding, and care across various patient populations.

Candidates are to present a statement explaining their reason for taking the course and other details about their past education. A letter of support from an academic referee or employer is also needed. Candidates can also choose to include their CV when they apply, to show any relevant work experience.

Grade Requirements: 

• Candidates need between 112 and 120 UCAS points, including A Levels, BTEC Extended Diploma at MPP,  T Levels, or International Baccalaureate. 
• Equivalent international A-level qualifications are also accepted.

English Proficiency: 

• Candidates from countries where English is not their first language need an IELTS score of 6.0 overall and at least 5.5 in each part of the test. 
• Other similar test results, like PTE and TOEFL, are also accepted

For international students taking the BSc Operating Department Practice at Staffordshire University, the tuition fee is £19.000 per year.
