BA Early Childhood Studies with Foundation Year

Course Overview

Leeds Trinity University offers a four-year undergraduate course in Early Childhood Studies, which includes a Foundation Year. This programme focuses on the important role that adults play in influencing children's development, learning, and overall well-being. This degree has an initial full-time Foundation Year and offers an alternative route into university for students to obtain a degree. The Foundation Year in Education and Childhood helps students build academic skills as they prepare for their main degree programme.

 

Students will undertake a project to study a topic related to their specialisation. This course observes the factors that shape children’s personalities and behaviour, utilising knowledge about the patterns of child development. They will also examine the problems children may face, from domestic abuse to disability. This course involves lectures, professional visits, conferences, and seminars to reinforce classroom theories. Assessment is done through periodic tests, examinations, and project work.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

Grade Requirements:

  • International students need a UCAS tariff of 48 points.
  • Mature international applicants with qualifications can enrol in this course if they provide evidence of their experience or prior learning. However, the assessment will be individual-based. Other accepted qualifications include BTECs and T Levels.

English Proficiency:

  • International students are required to achieve an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with no individual component falling below 5.5.
  • Alternatively, they can provide a Pearson PTE Academic score ranging from 59 to 75, an International Baccalaureate grade of 5 in either HL or SL English B or A, or a TOEFL iBT total score between 79 and 89.
