MSc Mental Health Nursing

Course Overview

Students who opt to study the Kingston University MSc Mental Health Nursing programme are trained to have a purposeful career, addressing the significant need for mental health professionals. The programme provides both theoretical knowledge and practice and emphasises evidence-based strategies and complex clinical skills. The students will learn important principles of nursing, as well as modules focusing on mental health, all of which will enable them to get registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

A large part of the course comprises placements and working in award-winning simulation suites, which provide a practical learning experience in attaining the necessary skills. Students will acquire the knowledge of different psychological approaches applied in practice and cooperate with the service users with the goal of recovery and improvement of the quality of life. The graduates will be prepared to practise in a wide range of mental health organisations, like hospitals and community services.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

To be enrolled, applicants need to submit a personal statement, and a relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Applicants can also upload their CVs along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least a second-class undergraduate degree (2:2) in a health- or science-related field, and must have a minimum of 650 hours of health or social care-related experience, undertaken in the two years before application. 
  • Applicants will also have to complete an RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) claim form to show their experience, which, along with a testimony, is a condition for entry.

English Proficiency:

  • If you are from a non-English speaking background need an IELTS score of 6.5 overall with 6.0 in all other elements, or equivalent qualification.

Cost of Study

For international students, the annual fee for the MSc Mental Health Nursing at Kingston University is £18,800 for Year 1.

Scholarships

Students taking pre-registration nursing courses may be eligible for a non-repayable NHS Training Grant of at least £5,000 per year, subject to eligibility criteria. Kingston University also offers international scholarships based on the applicant's reasons for wanting to study at the university and their potential to support the university's recruitment and marketing efforts. Additionally, alumni discounts, such as a 15% Postgraduate Progression Scholarship for those who completed an undergraduate course at Kingston University and are progressing to postgraduate study without a gap, or a 10% Alumni discount for all Kingston University undergraduate students progressing to postgraduate courses, may be available.
