In the post-Covid period, student visas in the United Kingdom increased by nearly 71% in 2022. According to Home Office information, about 20,000 Bangladeshi students got UK visas from Bangladesh this year. But experts in immigration say that the plan to require that spouses speak English at a postgraduate level will discourage students.
According to sources, approximately 4,86,000 students received student visas in the United Kingdom between January and June of this year, which is 71% more than in 2019. Home Office National Statistics, which is in charge of immigration in the UK, says that 81,000 visas have been given to students’ children or spouses.
Britain’s top newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, reports that about 25,000 of the 93,000 Indian students who got visas in the UK this year and about 32,000 of the 43,000 Nigerian students have visas for their spouses or dependents.
Barrister Abul Kalam from the UK said that Britain wants to stop immigration by making it so that you don’t have to know English to get a visa for your spouse.
According to Golam Mortuza, Director of AHZ, which assists students in obtaining admission to Britain, the visa system in Britain is easier than ever for students. This year, a record number of students from Bangladesh were granted visas.
Barrister Manowar Hossain, a lawyer for human rights, thinks that requiring spouses to know English to get a visa will lead to discrimination and the breakup of families.
