BA Media, Arts and Humanities with a foundation year

University of Sussex

Course overview

The BA Media, Arts and Humanities (with a foundation year) course is a brilliant chance for students to get ready for a degree at the University of Sussex. The Arts and Humanities Foundation Year prepares you to start Year 1 of your degree with a good head start. This option is perfect if you are not sure which subject you want to focus on, if you do not have the right subjects or grades for starting the first year immediately, or if you are returning to education after some time away. The Foundation Year focuses on building the essential academic skills needed for university study. You will gain key skills in critical analysis (deep thinking about ideas), developing arguments, and self-expression.

You will explore different university-level subjects, such as history, art history, philosophy, and literature. Students can choose from a wide range of modules to make the course fit their interests. All students must take the core modules, which are dedicated to academic development for Media, Arts, and Humanities, both in the autumn and spring terms. If you complete the Foundation Year successfully, you can then continue your studies in the different Arts and Humanities subjects at Sussex. You only need to show that you have the potential to succeed in a demanding degree.
