BSc Psychology and Counselling

Course Overview

The BSc Psychology and Counselling programme at the University of Suffolk combines the scientific study of the human mind with an introduction to counselling practice. The psychology aspect of this course teaches essential knowledge such as social, cognitive, biological, and developmental psychology, along with research methods.

The counselling component introduces students to counselling skills and diverse perspectives, including humanistic and psychodynamic approaches, and the use of theory in the counselling context. This provides foundational knowledge for students who wish to pursue professional training in counselling. Understanding human behaviour is central to the programme, as it helps students provide more effective therapeutic support.

This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), ensuring eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) after completion. The course teaches students how to help people overcome mental health challenges by understanding the reasons behind their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and providing informed guidance and support.
