MEng Biomedical Engineering

Course Overview

The MEng Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is one of the oldest such departments in the world. It is a degree programme that combines a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree into a single, continuous course of study. The course covers different aspects of mechanical and electrical engineering principles along with biomedical science. This programme gives students skills and knowledge in developing medical technologies and techniques that will help patient care.

The programme is accredited by the Institute of Physics & Engineering in Medicine, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering & Technology, on behalf of the Engineering Council. Learning is done through research, lectures, talks from experts, practical sessions, and visits to clinical centres and hospitals. Assessment is through coursework, examinations, lab work, and research projects.

Entry Requirements for Nepalese Students

International applicants should submit academic transcripts and certificates, a copy of their passport, visa documentation, and a written consent from their parents or legal guardians.

Grade Requirements:

  • The standard entry requirement for this programme is an A in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering Science, and Biology, and a B in two other subjects in Highers or their equivalent in your country.
  • The minimum grade entry requirement in Highers (or its equivalent) is an A or B in Mathematics, a B in Physics or Engineering Science, Biology, and any other subject.
  • For A-Level or its equivalent in your country, applicants should have at least a B in Maths and Physics, and an A in any other subject, to enter the first year.
  • For those who are starting from year 2, they will need an A in Maths, Physics, and an A or B in Biology.

English Proficiency:

  • International applicants whose first language is not English will have to show proof of English language proficiency. This means they will have at least a 6.0 overall score in IELTS.
  • Those who do not meet the English requirements can take the university’s preparation programmes.
  • International students can also improve their English language level instead of retaking IELTS.

Cost of Study

Tuition fee for international students is £30,250 yearly. This fee is subject to review by the university every year.

The scholarships and funding available for international students for this course are the Faculty of Engineering International Scholarships (£2,935 for the first year), International Study Centre (ISC) Scholarships, and Donor / Alumni Scholarships.
