DInfSci Doctor of Information Science

Course Overview

The DInfSci Doctor of Information Science at the University of Strathclyde is a professional doctorate research programme. It allows researchers to study real-world problems in Information Science.

The programme gives students advanced research skills, knowledge of theory and practice, and the ability to think critically when evaluating information. Students also learn how to find gaps in knowledge, create new insights, and carry out research that improves their work area.

The course takes three years if studied full-time, and up to six years if studied part-time. It can be studied online. This means students do not need to travel to the UK, as they can study from any country. Assessment for the programme includes a literature review, directed study, research project, and a final thesis.

About University

Entry Requirements for Nepalese Students

International students applying for the DInfSci must provide official academic transcripts and certificates for all completed degrees. They must also submit two references, a research proposal, and a CV.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants must have at least a higher second-class honours degree (2:1) or its equivalent in the applicant’s country.
  • Prospective students or researchers should have at least five years of management experience within the information professions.

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English must show proof of English ability by having at least a 6.5 overall score in IELTS.
  • Without IELTS, the university also accepts other English proficiency tests such as Pearson Test of English (PTE) 60 overall, TOEFL iBT (80 overall), LanguageCert Academic (SELT) (70–74 overall), and Duolingo English Test (125 overall).

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students is £24,650 per year for full-time study. For part-time study, students pay only for the part of the course they are studying each year. The tuition fee may be reviewed by the university every year.

Scholarships

There are several scholarships and funding available for international students. They include Postgraduate Research Scholarships in Engineering (which offer a 15% reduction of the tuition fee). Other scholarships are Wellcome, Commonwealth Scholarships (Least Developed Countries), Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarships (low & middle income countries), and Schlumberger Foundation.
