MSc Project Management

Course Overview

The MSc Project Management at the University of Portsmouth is a one-year course for students who want to advance their knowledge and skills in project management. Students will learn about various topics, including project environments, budgets, managing people, and risk management.

Some of the core modules offered in the course are People Management and Risk, Managing Programmes and Portfolios, and Project Investigation and System Methods. Students will be assessed through coursework, reports, and presentations.

The course is officially recognised by the Chartered Association for Project Management (APM), which is a professional body for project management in the UK. Students receive free APM membership while studying, giving them access to webinars, events, and networking opportunities. This programme is also accredited by the AACSB, which means it meets high standards of business education. Only a small number of schools worldwide have this accreditation.

The University of Portsmouth gained university status in 1992 after being a leading polytechnic for decades. It is located in Portsmouth, England, and has a large community of over 31,000 students and 3,600 staff.

Entry Requirements

  • Students who do not meet the standard requirements can still apply if they have strong work experience and demonstrate the academic potential to succeed in the programme.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants should have a second-class honours degree or an equivalent qualification.

English Proficiency:

  • Non-native English speakers are required to achieve a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no skill section scoring below 5.5. However, those who hold a degree from a UK university, a degree from a majority English-speaking country (not completed via Distance Learning), or who are citizens of a majority English-speaking country are exempt from this requirement.

Cost of Study

For the academic year 2025/26, the tuition fee for international students enrolling in the University of Portsmouth MSc Project Management programme is set at £17,900. Please be aware that this fee may be subject to annual increases.

Scholarships

The University of Portsmouth offers a variety of scholarships for eligible students. The Chancellor's Global Academic Merit Scholarship provides a £5,000 fee reduction for the first year, while the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship offers a £2,500 discount to further ease tuition costs.

For asylum seekers, the Sanctuary Scholarship covers full tuition fees for undergraduate degrees and includes personal and financial assistance. Other programmes like Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships provide funding for Master’s students and promote education equity and global development.
