LLB Law With Year Abroad
Course overview
The LLB Law with Year Abroad at the University of Hull is a four-year undergraduate law degree that provides all the academic foundations required to become a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. The programme is fully approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and the Bar Standards Board (BSB), making it a qualifying law degree.
A key feature of this course is the compulsory year abroad. During the third year, students study at one of the University of Hull’s partner universities across Europe, North America, Australia, Asia, or other regions. Living and studying overseas allows students to experience a different legal system, develop cultural awareness, and gain a global perspective on law, significantly strengthening their CV.
Teaching is highly practical and interactive. Students learn through lectures, small-group seminars, and workshops that focus on real legal skills such as client interviewing, negotiation, advocacy, and courtroom practice in mock trials. Guest lectures from practising solicitors and barristers provide valuable insight into real legal careers.
Assessment goes beyond traditional examinations. Students are assessed through essays, presentations, group work, mooting exercises, and problem-based legal tasks, helping them develop the academic, professional, and transferable skills sought by employers.
