MEng Mechanical Engineering
Course overview
The MEng Mechanical Engineering (Sandwich) at the University of Hertfordshire is an undergraduate degree that provides students with an understanding of engineering, along with the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills to master’s level. The course is the first step toward becoming a chartered engineer and will lead to excellent career options across a range of sectors.
Students learn the key engineering subjects, including mathematics, materials and electrical science, mechanical science, manufacturing technology, computer-aided engineering, and thermodynamics. This course also includes a placement year, also called the Sandwich, where students work under organisations to gain experience. During their final master’s year, they will also gain additional knowledge through advanced modules.
By the end of the programme, graduates will be able to apply their BEng understanding to team projects, including designing a hovercraft, a Formula Student racing car, and an unmanned aircraft. Learning is through lectures, tutorials, workshops, and lab sessions, and students are assessed through classroom presentations, laboratory reports, essay writing assignments, examinations, and a final-year project.
