MSc Finance and Management

This MSc Finance and Management course at the University of Essex is designed for those without a first degree in finance or business. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to fit into finance and managerial roles in the business world.

During this course, students will learn the principles of finance; how to manage and increase the financial resources of any organisation, and the core concepts of business management; and how to oversee business operations effectively. Combined, students graduate with enough theoretical and practical knowledge to handle any organisation, particularly the financial sector.

The University adopts a research-led teaching method including scheduled lectures, coursework and projects. Assessments occur through examinations, coursework (extended essays), and a final-year project.

Entry Requirements

These are the typical entry requirements to study.

• Applicants need to submit a CV with at least one year of relevant work experience in the fields of Economics, Finance, Banking, Investment, Financial Engineering, Risk Management, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Public Administration, Non-profit Management or Quantitative Analysis.

Grade requirements 

• Applicants need at least a 2:2 degree, or international equivalent, in any subject.

English Proficiency

• Non-native English speakers may need to demonstrate proficiency in the language, typically through an IELTS score of at least 6.0. TOEFL or other equivalents are also allowed.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee (2025/2026 session) for MSc Finance and Management at the University of Essex is £23,500 per year.
