BSc Computer Science Practice top-up

Course Overview

The  BSc  Computer Science & Practice (top-up) at the University for the Creative Arts is a new top-up degree course which focuses on understanding and working with computer systems and networks at a deep level, but also how those skills are put into dialogue with other fields, allowing students to build on the skills they have already attained in previous studies.

The curriculum emphasises designing and producing software outputs, supported by theoretical frameworks and problem-solving skills. Students will learn about programming, data types and databases, web design and web development, user interfaces, software lifecycle,  artificial intelligence and cyber security.

The course is conducted through independent study (70%) and scheduled teaching (30%), while the overall methods of assessment include practical exams (18.8%) and coursework (81.2%). The final major research project is a compilation of students' skills, passion, and creativity in an area of interest to promote computing skills.

About University

The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is a specialist creative arts institution located in Farnham, England. It was formed in 2005 as University College for the Creative Arts and gained university status in 2008.

UCA provides facilities including studios (featuring individual workstations, light boxes, Wacom tablets, line testers and batch scanners) and labs for computing, creative arts and design fields, a library with up-to-date study resources, and dedicated student support services.

The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in academic fields such as Creative Arts, Business and Technology. These programmes and the campus environment are designed to promote creative technology and education.

Entry Requirements for Nepalese Students

Applicants are required to submit a personal statement discussing their interest in the course and upload a CV to demonstrate proficiency in Python and Java, and significant experience in the use of databases through projects, demos, code snippets and full source code for the projects.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically require 240 credits from a relevant foundation degree or HND.
  • Alternatively, relevant equivalent international qualifications are also accepted.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants who do not speak English as their first language are required to have an IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 as a minimum in every section.
  • Alternative English tests like PTE and TOEFL are accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for the BSc  Computer Science & Practice (top-up) in the University for the Creative Arts is £17,500 per year for international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change.

Scholarships

The University for the Creative Arts offers scholarships and bursaries to international students. Scholarships such as the UCA Merit Scholarship, worth a £4,500 fee deduction for the first year, are available to all applicants who achieve above and beyond the required academic level in their entry qualifications and who adhere to UCA deposit payment policies. Another scholarship available to all international students is the UCA Creative Development Scholarships, which offers a £3,000 fee deduction for the first year.
