LLB Law with a Foundation Year

Swansea University

Course overview

The LLB Law with a Foundation Year at Swansea University is a four-year programme designed for students who may not meet the direct entry requirements for the undergraduate Law degree. This course prepares you for a full LLB by introducing essential legal themes and key academic skills during the foundation year. Over the remaining three years, you will develop a solid understanding of core areas of law, strengthen your research and analytical skills, and learn to communicate your ideas effectively.

During the foundation year, classes are smaller, providing a more personalised learning experience. You will be introduced to legal concepts and terminology through modules such as Legal Skills, Contract Law, and Criminal Law, as well as essential academic subjects including Critical Thinking, IT Support, and Composition and Style. Learning takes place through lectures, seminars, and practical sessions, helping you actively engage with the material and build a strong academic foundation.

As you progress through the degree, you will be able to choose from a wide range of specialised Law modules, covering areas such as Medicine, Human Rights, Family Law, Environmental Law, Trade, Employment, and Media Law.
