BSc Medical Biochemistry with a Foundation Year

Swansea University

Course overview

The University’s BSc Medical Biochemistry with a Foundation Year is the right course for students who are interested in Biochemistry, how it links to the study of diseases, the development of pharmaceutics, and the complex relationship between these and our environment, but do not have the required entry qualifications to join the BSc programme, or are mature students returning to education.

The foundation year of this four-year course will introduce students to the key concepts and knowledge they need to progress to the BSc in Medical Biochemistry. Following the successful completion of the Foundation Year with a minimum overall average of 60%, students will progress to Year 1 of the BSc.

This degree provides students with an in-depth understanding of the biochemical functions of living organisms, ranging from bacteria to plants, animals, and humans. They will develop excellent project management skills and learn how to design experiments and plan work programmes.
