BSc Honours MSci Biochemistry

Course Overview

The BSc (Honours)/MSci Biochemistry course at Sheffield Hallam University gives students a full education in biochemistry, teaching them how to use their knowledge to address key issues in areas like health, sustainability, and finding new medicines. The programme is approved by the Royal Society of Biology and includes an option for a professional work placement year. Students also have the choice to transfer to a Master of Science (MSci) course to do a year of specialised research. This course is offered at the City Campus and takes three to four years to complete.

The learning is very practical and is taught by researchers and experts from the pharmaceutical industry. The course includes lectures, seminars, tutorials, and practical lab work using standard industry tools. Students also work on real-life research projects and complete their own six-week research project in their final year.

Entry Requirements for Nepalese Students

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • UCAS Tariff: 112 points. This can come from A levels, T Levels or a BTEC Extended Diploma.
  • A levels: Grades BCC, including at least two science subjects from Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Psychology, Applied Science, or Computer Science.
  • BTEC Extended Diploma: Grades DMM in Applied Science.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need an IELTS score of 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, or an equivalent test score.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international and EU students, the fee is £17,155 per year.

Scholarships

International students may be eligible for general university scholarships, such as the GREAT Scholarships, which offer at least £10,000 towards tuition fees for students from certain countries. The Transform Together Scholarships offer a discounted course fee for high-achieving international students, while the Vice-Chancellor's Award provides financial help to international students.
