MRes Pharmaceutical Analysis
Course overview
This officially approved Master of Research (MRes) helps students develop their skills in pharmaceutical analysis and includes a main, research-based project. Students learn about the difficult process of organic synthesis, how to make key biological molecules, and chemistry methods for finding and testing drugs. The course is available full-time over one year or part-time over two years at the Clifton Campus.
The course has been officially approved by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), confirming it meets the high professional standards needed for industry jobs. Expert staff teach the lessons, which include lab work, so students get practical experience using modern equipment such as NMR and mass spectrometry in the university's excellent facilities. Students are graded through different tasks, including a research thesis, written exams, coursework, and presentations.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience and additional professional background.
Grade Requirements:
- Applicants need at least a second-class honours undergraduate degree (2.2) in a chemistry-related subject, such as Chemistry, Forensic Science, Pharmacology, or Pharmacy.
- Alternatively, a different degree will be acceptable if the student has enough relevant employment experience in a field related to pharmaceutical analysis or laboratory work, and those with relevant professional qualifications will also be considered for entry.
English Proficiency:
- Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score at least 6.5 overall in the IELTS Academic test, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the individual components (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
- The university accepts equivalent English language test scores and offers a Pre-Sessional English course for those who need to improve their language skills before starting their course.
