BSc Sport Coaching with Foundation Year

The BSc Sport Coaching with Foundation Year is a full‑time programme that runs for four years on the City Campus. The programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), which means students meet the professional Standards to be a Coach or Assistant Coach.

Students who do not meet standard entry requirements start with the foundation year, where they cover subjects like Health and Wellbeing, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Skills in Sports, Practical delivery in Sport Physical Activity, Behaviours in Sport and Physical Activity and Projects in Sports and Nutrition. Students will move to the honours degree after completing the foundation year and focus on sport coaching methods, sport psychology, physiology, session planning and professional coaching skills.

Students will learn through academic teaching and practical coaching, and their placements in schools or clubs will help develop communication, observation and planning skills, and they will be supported by industry experts. Students will be assessed through written assignments, presentations, practical tasks and placements.

Grade Requirements:

• Candidates need 88 UCAS tariff points or higher, including  A‑level grades CCD, BTEC Extended Diploma MMM (96 points). 
• International qualifications equivalent to A-levels are also accepted.

English Proficiency:

• Applicants need to score at least 6.0 overall in the IELTS test, with a minimum of 5.5 in each section.
• Other English language test scores, such as PTE and TOEFL IBT, are also accepted.

The annual tuition fee for the BSc Sport Coaching with Foundation Year course at Liverpool John Moores University for the 2025/26 academic year is £18,250.

Liverpool John Moores University offers Scholarships to International students, such as the International Achievement Scholarship, which gives them a £4,000 discount on tuition fees. It is automatic for eligible students and applies every year. To qualify, students need to fund themselves, meet their offer conditions and not have other external funding.
