The BSc Sport Coaching with Foundation Year is a full‑time programme that runs for four years on the City Campus. The programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), which means students meet the professional Standards to be a Coach or Assistant Coach.
Students who do not meet standard entry requirements start with the foundation year, where they cover subjects like Health and Wellbeing, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Skills in Sports, Practical delivery in Sport Physical Activity, Behaviours in Sport and Physical Activity and Projects in Sports and Nutrition. Students will move to the honours degree after completing the foundation year and focus on sport coaching methods, sport psychology, physiology, session planning and professional coaching skills.
Students will learn through academic teaching and practical coaching, and their placements in schools or clubs will help develop communication, observation and planning skills, and they will be supported by industry experts. Students will be assessed through written assignments, presentations, practical tasks and placements.
