BEng Robotic Engineering and Artificial Intelligence

Course Overview

The BEng Robotic Engineering and Artificial Intelligence course at Kingston University teaches you how to design, build, and program intelligent machines. You'll explore the systems that power robotics, from sensors and microcontrollers to the algorithms that allow robots to make decisions and learn from experience. Whether it’s building autonomous drones, smart home devices, or industrial robots, this course gives you the practical and technical skills to bring machines to life.

You’ll learn in a hands-on way, using real tools and equipment from day one. Along the way, you’ll also gain a solid foundation in electronics, mechanical systems, and software development. The course is ideal if you’re interested in how machines can interact with the world and adapt to their environment. In your final year, you’ll complete a major project where you design and build a working robotic system or AI-based solution.

The course is taught through lectures, practical workshops, lab experiments, group work, and technical projects using robotics kits, simulation software, and electronics equipment, while assessment is mostly coursework-based, which means that you’ll be marked on projects, reports, presentations, and practical tests. Some modules also include exams, but the main focus is on applying what you learn in real-world situations.
