BSc Biotechnology

Course Overview

Edge Hill University BSc Biotechnology is a full-time, three-year course that trains students on how to apply industrial methods in one of the most thriving sectors of science. Areas of study mentioned in the programme are genetic engineering, biomedicine, molecular biology and microbiology. It aims to equip students with practical skills through laboratory work and research.

The course curriculum has been designed to provide a firm foundation during the first year, and later on, to more specific topics. Year three comprises a biotechnology research project and modules on topics such as genomics and pharmacology. The course gives the students information on how to use knowledge in addressing the issues of diseases and food production, and includes visits to biotechnology firms.

Edge Hill University is a campus-based public university in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England, established in 1885 and has since been recognised as the Modern University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022. The university has three academic faculties, namely, Arts and Sciences, Education, and Health and Social Care, providing the university with a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Entry Requirements for Nepalese Students

To be enrolled, you need to submit a personal statement discussing your reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding your studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also needed. You also have the option to upload your CV along with your applications to demonstrate your work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically need 112–120 UCAS Tariff points, including BBC-BBB at A-Level or a Distinction, Merit, Merit (DMM) for a BTEC Extended Diploma, a T-Level (Merit), an International Baccalaureate (IB) or an Access to Higher Education Diploma. 
  • International students can submit qualifications that are equivalent to A-levels.

English Proficiency: 

  • Candidates whose first language is not English need an overall IELTS score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in all sections. Other equivalent test scores, like PTE, are also accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for full-time international undergraduate students taking the BSc Biotechnology at Edge Hill University is £17,000 per year.

Scholarships

Edge Hill University offers a range of scholarships for undergraduate students, with many being awarded automatically based on eligibility criteria. International students may be automatically considered for an Undergraduate Development Scholarship worth up to £3,000 towards their first year's tuition fees. There is also the Student Opportunity Fund, which provides financial support to help with living expenses and career-enhancing opportunities.
