BA Law and Criminology

Course Overview

The BA (Hons) Law and Criminology programme at Cardiff Metropolitan University explores the relationship between crime, society, and legal frameworks, and it provides a good understanding of legal systems and the social dynamics of criminal behaviour.

This course is supposed to develop deep thinking and analytical skills to prepare students for their roles within the criminal justice and legal sectors and it includes core Law courses. It allows room for specialisation through optional courses.

The teaching methods combine traditional lectures with practical elements like tutorials, seminars, workshops, and mock trials. Assessment includes written coursework, assignments, portfolios, case studies, oral presentations, examinations, and valuable work-based placements.

In the second year of this course, students are supposed to take a 15-day placement in criminal justice, and the degree gives students an option to include a work placement for a year, which offers them real-world experience.
