MA Landscape Architecture

The MA Landscape Architecture course is designed to take landscape architects to the next level. This prepares them to be accredited as Chartered Landscape Architects who have a strong dedication to tackling climate change and biodiversity loss. Students learn to create sustainable landscapes and communities. Through a design studio, students explore innovative ideas, conduct in-depth research, and develop creative solutions to real-world challenges.

This course combines theory and practice perfectly, allowing students to work on different projects, from big landscape plans to detailed designs. It is accredited by the Landscape Institute and is recognised globally by the International Federation of Landscape Architects. 

Students who want to study this course can also choose a 20-week professional placement to gain practical experience that will build them up and prepare them for their career paths.

Applicants must submit a personal statement, academic or employer reference, and optionally, a CV to build a picture of their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

• Applicants need a second-class undergraduate degree (2.2)  in fields like landscape architecture, architecture, urban design or related disciplines.
• A different degree will be acceptable if the student has enough relevant work experience in the field.

English Proficiency: 

• Applicants need to score 6.5 overall in IELTS (with 5.5 in each section) 
• Other scores like TOEFL and PTE are also accepted.

For international students, the full-time fee is £18,600, and the 18-month option with a placement year is £20,460.

While the school does not provide specific scholarships for this course, the school offers quite a number scholarships such as, International Postgraduate Scholarships for up to £2,000 off tuition fees for postgraduate students based on academic excellence, with awards from £1,000 to £2,000 depending on the degree class; also he 125th Anniversary Scholarships are available to Master's students from specific countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, for studies starting in September 2025. Chevening and Birmingham Partnership Scholarships are offered to Master's students from 160 countries through a partnership with the Chevening program, and Commonwealth Scholarships are available for students from developing Commonwealth countries, with various schemes often focused on specific subjects or levels of study.
