BA Psychological Studies

Birkbeck University London

Course overview

The BA Psychological Studies at Birkbeck University, London, is a 3-year full-time programme that gives students a strong foundation in core areas of psychology, how people learn, remember, think, and behave, and how the brain and mind interact. Students study modules and can specialise in Applied Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Social Psychology. In the final year, students also do an independent theoretical dissertation.

Students learn through lectures and seminars, with discussions, presentations, group work, and project work, plus support from personal tutors, and access to Birkbeck’s research facilities. They are assessed through essays, quizzes, practical work, case studies, presentations, timed tasks, reflective reviews, and the final dissertation. This degree is suited for students who want to apply psychology in many professional areas rather than pursue a professional psychologist route immediately.
