MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology BPS Accredited

Bangor University

Course overview

This MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology (BPS Accredited) at Bangor University is accredited by the BPS. Students who complete the degree could therefore achieve Stage 1 training of the qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology. This is a key component of the career pathway to becoming a chartered psychologist. The course focuses on developing students’ scientific understanding of the human mind, behaviour, and experience, and the complex interactions between these and the domain of sport and exercise.

The MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology (BPS Accredited) at Bangor University has been designed to be flexible and relevant to students' individual needs and interests, with a strong emphasis, in the taught component of the course, on the links from theory to practice. The degree will equip students with a blend of evidence-based knowledge and practical skills that act as a stepping-stone to prepare them for a career working with individuals who are involved in these specific settings.

Entry requirements

  • To become a fully recognised Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist in the UK, applicants need the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) from the British Psychological Society (BPS). For those who already have the qualification or plan to get it right after this Master's, they will obtain full Chartered Status and BPS membership.
  • Those whose first degree was not BPS-accredited can still apply and get their MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology. However, this Master's degree on its own will not count toward the BPS Chartered Status. To have GBC, students must have completed a BPS-accredited undergraduate degree.
