LLB Law with Welsh Cymraeg
Course overview
The LLB Law with Welsh (Cymraeg) at Bangor University is a unique degree that combines the study of literature, language, and culture with core law modules. This programme directly responds to employer demands for graduates with high-quality skills who are confident and capable of working through the medium of Welsh.
Studying LLB Law with Welsh (Cymraeg) from Bangor University gives you the necessary skills in both law and the Welsh language to work in a legal job where two languages (English and Welsh) are used. Since devolution in 1998, there has been a growing demand for bilingual lawyers and those with legal knowledge in both the public and private arenas. You will further develop your Welsh language skills, increasing your awareness of the language's different tones and how Welsh is used in specific contexts, from news bulletins and reviews to summarising and short translation.
You will graduate with a Law degree that meets the academic requirements for qualification as a barrister (Bar Standards Board compliant) and provides essential knowledge for aspiring solicitors. The combination of legal and linguistic skills would also be beneficial for a variety of non-legal careers, such as government, local authority, non-governmental organisations, and policy work.
