BSc Honours MSci Biochemistry with Foundation Year
Course overview
This four-year course leads to an honours or master's degree in Biochemistry. The first year is a foundation year for students who do not meet the usual entry requirements for a full degree. The course teaches the main principles of chemistry and biology, as well as the important skills needed for university study.
The learning is focused on hands-on practice, with a strong emphasis on laboratory skills. Students will learn about core subjects like molecular and cellular biochemistry and modern lab techniques. The course also gives students the chance to do a year-long work placement to get professional experience.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.
Grade Requirements:
- Applicants need 64 UCAS points. This must include at least 24 points from a single A-level and 16 points from a science subject, such as biology, chemistry, or human biology.
- The university also accepts an Access to HE Diploma from a QAA-recognised science-based course, which typically requires 15 credits at level 2 and 45 at level 3.
