MSci Cyber Security

Course Overview

The MSci (Hons) Cyber Security at Buckinghamshire New University is a four-year course that includes both undergraduate and postgraduate study. This means you will study for a bachelor’s degree in the first three years, and in the fourth year, you will continue to a higher level and graduate with a master’s degree.

From your first year, you will learn the basic skills you need in computing and cyber security. Topics include programming, computer systems, networks, and how to manage cyber threats. As you continue, you will study subjects like information security, software development, database design, and artificial intelligence.

In your final year, you can choose subjects that interest you most. These may include cloud security, risk management, or disaster recovery.You’ll also complete a major project, giving you the chance to research and explore a subject in depth.

Studying MSci (Hons) Cyber Security at Buckinghamshire New University also prepares you for professional certification from global tech companies like Amazon AWS, Microsoft, Cisco, and Hewlett-Packard. You’ll have the option to gain real-world experience with the tools used in the industry today.

About University

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) is a public university founded in 1891. It was originally a School of Science and Art and became a university in 2007. BNU offers over 300 courses, with strong performance in subjects like Accounting, Business, Psychology and Sports Science. 

BNU’s main campus is in High Wycombe. This campus has modern facilities including art & design studios, a gym, film and TV studios, and a modern library/hub. 

Buckinghamshire New University has a strong student community with 96% of graduates in work, further study, volunteering, or caring roles 15 months after graduating. It has a scheme called “The Big Deal” which provides free access to sports clubs, societies, workshops and events each month. 

Entry Requirements

Grade Requirements:

  • The typical requirement needed to study this course is a UCAS tariff score of 88 - 112. This can be obtained through qualifications such as A-Levels, T-Levels, BTEC or an Access to Higher Education Course in a relevant subject. 

English Proficiency:

  • Students who are non-native speakers of English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by having an IELTS score of 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each of the four components. 
  • Equivalent tests such as PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, or LanguageCert Academic are also accepted. 

Cost of Study

For the 2025/2026 academic session, the tuition fee to study the MSci (Hons) Cyber Security at Buckinghamshire New University is £15,150. Please note that fees may be subject to a yearly increase.

Scholarships

BNU offers a range of scholarships and bursaries to support its students. The university recognises the financial challenges international students face when moving abroad and is, therefore, committed to providing various avenues of support to ensure that your academic journey is both enriching and accessible.

One of the scholarships available to International students is the Vice Chancellor's International Student Scholarship. This scholarship awards up to £5,000 to self-funding students in their first year of study. Please note that this scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with another scholarship or bursary offered by Buckinghamshire New University.

Additionally, BNU offers an International Early Payment Discount of £500 for full payment of fees before the 1 August 2025 deadline.
