Studying a Mechanical Engineering Foundation Programme in the UK provides students with a strong introduction to fundamentals concepts such as environmental design and mathematics, helping them build a strong foundation in preparation for an undergraduate engineering degree.
This programme equips students with foundational technical skills in computer-aided design (CAD), model making, and metalwork, creating a clear pathway to a BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering.
The programme runs for 1 year, offering students the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops and laboratory sessions, where they work on real-world projects, applying theoretical knowledge to practical engineering challenges.
Grade Requirements
Qualifications equivalent to A-levels or GCSE or any other international qualification including mathematics, physics and chemistry are accepted.
International Baccalaureate: 32 points (any subjects); 31 with Maths and at least one of Physics, Chemistry, or Biology at Higher Level 5
BTEC Extended Diploma and National Extended Diploma with grades Merit, Merit Merit can be accepted.
English Proficiency:
Non-native English speakers may need to demonstrate proficiency in the language, typically through an IELTS score of at least 6.5. TOEFL or other equivalents are also allowed.
Engineering and physical science skills are used in almost all aspects of our modern lives, meaning that graduates in these areas are in high demand. Students who have completed an Engineering Foundation Programme go on to study for their bachelor-level degree.
Upon completion of a BEng/MEng degree, some students have gone on to work in a variety of roles, including roles such as mechanical engineers, design engineers, project managers, and consultants in major companies. A BEng in Mechanical Engineering can grant access to roles like:
Aerospace Engineer
Automotive Engineer
Mechanical Technician
Mining Engineer
Patent Engineer
Nuclear Engineer
