The MSc by Research in Nanomaterials Science at the University of Lincoln is a programme for students who are very interested in conducting advanced research in nanotechnology. It can be studied either full-time for one year or part-time for two years. The main goal is to help students carry out their independent research and make contributions to the field of nanomaterials.
In this programme, students mainly learn through independent study instead of attending traditional classes. Most of their time will be spent working alone on their research projects, with periodic meetings with a supervisor for guidance. They may also have the chance to collaborate with researchers from other countries.
Furthermore, students will write a Master's thesis, which is an important part of the program, on a topic they choose together with their academic supervisor. Assessment is primarily based on the quality of this thesis, as well as the student's performance during an oral examination, where they defend their research.
The University of Lincoln is well-known for its strong focus on research and for maintaining high academic standards. It was established in 1996 and is a founding member of the Nature Positive Universities Alliance, which promotes environmental responsibility in education.
In 2023, the university received a Gold Tier rating in the Uswitch Green Universities Report and was also honoured with the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for its research in agri-food technology and sustainability.
