For most students, the big question is, “Will my HSC be enough?” A Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Bangladesh is generally seen as slightly lower than the UK A-Level standard. While some universities might take you straight away if your GPA is 4.0 or above, most students begin with a Foundation Year. This is a one-year “bridge” course to prepare you for the full degree. If you already have a Bachelor’s degree from Bangladesh—especially from BUET or top public or private schools—you can usually apply directly for a Master’s.

2. Meeting the English Language Rules

You must show that you can speak, read, and write English well enough to study. Most universities require an IELTS score of 6.0 to 6.5, with no part below 5.5, for 2026 intakes. The PTE Academic test is also gaining popularity in Bangladesh due to the quick return of results, where you'll usually want to score in the 58-65 range.
