2025 in Review: A Year of Change, Growth and Adaptation
As a business, reflecting on the ups and downs of the previous year has become a vital practice, allowing us at AHZ to celebrate our successes and learn from the challenges of the past.
2025 was a pivotal year for both AHZ as a company and the wider education sector, requiring adaptation to policy developments, shifting expectations from students and an increased emphasis on quality and compliance across international recruitment.
For AHZ, this meant consistently reviewing and refining the ways in which we support our students, improving communication with our university partners and ensuring that all guidance remained clear and accurate, even during periods of uncertainty.
Reflecting on a Changing Education Landscape
In this reflection, we’d like to discuss how the education sector has evolved in response to 2025’s shifting landscape, and how we intend to adapt while continuing to support both our international students and our UK university partners.
Our Biggest Successes
Before looking ahead, we’d first like to celebrate some of our biggest successes from 2025.
Over the past year, AHZ partnered with several outstanding institutions, including:

- Bournemouth University
- Oxford Brookes University
We are incredibly proud to connect international students with such exciting universities and look forward to many years of successful collaboration.
Alongside these partnerships, our continued growth allowed us to open two new international offices — one in Saudi Arabia and the other in Uzbekistan. These new locations enable our counsellors to better support local students and guide them towards the most suitable UK universities and courses for their future careers.
2025’s UK Immigration White Paper
In May, Kier Starmer’s Labour government published its Immigration White Paper titled “Restoring Control over the Immigration System”. This document outlined proposed reforms to the UK’s migration framework, with the potential to significantly impact international students.
While the White Paper itself did not change the law, it clearly signalled the government’s future direction. Key proposals included:
- Reduction of the Graduate Route (Post-Study Work visa) from 2 years to 18 months
- Increased maintenance requirements
- Enhanced compliance expectations for student sponsors
- Updates to English language and visa rules
- Considerations around English language requirements for dependants
The Aftermath: Clarification and Adjustment
Initially, concerns were raised across the education sector that these changes could make the UK less attractive to international students. However, what followed was not immediate disruption, but rather a period of clarification and adjustment.
Many proposals were introduced with clear lead-in times, allowing universities, businesses and students to plan well in advance. Since then, the UK has reaffirmed its commitment to welcoming international students, and demand for UK education has remained remarkably strong.
For AHZ, these developments reinforced our commitment to guiding students through increasingly complex visa processes and ensuring that UK education remains accessible to all who aspire to it.

At the start of 2025, applications to study in the UK increased by approximately 29%, demonstrating strong demand despite tightening visa regulations.
Throughout the year, we observed a clear shift in applicant behaviour. Students are applying earlier, preparing more thoroughly and making more strategic decisions about their academic pathways.
For recruiters and institutions alike, 2025 highlighted the importance of clear guidance, realistic expectations, structured processes and the ability to remain agile in a changing environment.

As we move into 2026, we remain ready to adapt to any further changes within the education sector. We will continue working closely with our partners to ensure that studying in the UK remains an achievable goal for international students who are committed to success.
