MSc Nanomaterials and Energy
Course overview
This course teaches students how to use physics and chemistry to study and develop nanomaterials and their new technologies. Nanoscience is about looking at materials at a very tiny, atomic scale, linking up different areas of science. This Master's is perfect if you have a degree in physics, chemistry, or engineering and want a job in either research or industry.
The course uses different ways for students to learn and be assessed. This includes lectures, group seminars, time spent doing practical work in a laboratory, and a large research project. Students will study topics like Advanced Spectroscopy, Condensed State Physics, and Practical Quantum Technologies. This practical work gives graduates the skills to help solve modern problems, such as making new batteries and creating materials for regrowing bone.
Entry requirements
Applicants must hand in a personal statement explaining why students want to do the course and sharing details about their past studies. The university also needs a reference from a relevant academic or employer. Students can also choose to upload their CV to show their education and work history.
Grade Requirements:
- Applicants will need at least a lower second-class (2.2) Bachelor's degree. This degree should be in a subject like physics, chemistry, or engineering.
- The university may accept a different degree if you have enough relevant background knowledge in these sciences and engineering areas. If you want to study the physics parts of the course, you should have taken a module in quantum mechanics.
English Language Requirement:
- Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score 6.0 overall in IELTS (with at least 5.5 in each section) or submit equivalent secure English language test (SELT) scores.
- Other acceptable tests and grades are specified on the University’s English language requirements page.
