University of Sussex

Course overview

The MA Filmmaking from the University of Sussex enables students to build a strong portfolio and understand the role of filmmakers in shaping how stories reach and connect with audiences. Students will study filmmaking, documentary, and screenwriting together to gain a better understanding of what it takes to create a connection with audiences through storytelling.

Throughout the course, students will learn from award-winning filmmakers and internationally recognised academics. They will attend masterclasses led by industry leaders and engage in practical training in drama and documentary.

By exploring filmmaking across cinema, television, and digital media, students will develop the creative and technical skills in the filmmaking industry. Whether they aim to direct, produce, write, or edit, students graduate with a transferable skillset and portfolio of work that demonstrates their talent.
