Course overview

The MSc Business Analytics programme at the University of Surrey is built to give students advanced tools, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and management science, so they can make the most of large amounts of data. This course works to turn complicated data into useful insights, helping businesses do very well in today's competitive world.

Students will focus on three key areas: understanding business data, using data to solve business problems, and making business choices based on data. They'll gain practical problem-solving abilities and learn to judge important methods in business analytics on their own. The course also teaches them to manage data analytics projects from start to finish, from looking at raw data to creating visuals and sharing results.

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CVs along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically need a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, economics, engineering, finance, or mathematics. 
  • Alternatively, candidates with at least three years of relevant work experience in an analytical and data-intensive role may also be considered.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to demonstrate English language proficiency by having an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
  • Equivalent English language test scores, like TOEFL and PTE, are also accepted.
