BSc Nutrition and Dietetics with foundation year

University of Surrey

Course overview

The BSc Nutrition and Dietetics with Foundation Year at the University of Surrey is for students who want to work as dietitians or nutrition experts but do not yet meet the entry requirements. The first year is a foundation year that helps students build basic science, study, and communication skills. After that, they move into the main degree. Over four years, students learn how food affects the body, how diet can prevent and treat illness, and how to help people make healthy eating choices.

The University of Surrey is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Dietetic Association (BDA). This means students can register to work as dietitians in the UK after finishing the course and placements. A big part of the course is the work placement. Students also get to spend time in hospitals, clinics, or community centres to gain real experience. They learn through lectures, lab sessions, workshops, and group projects. Tests include exams, coursework, lab reports, and presentations. In the last year, students also got to complete a research project on a topic they enjoy.
